The Problem

Why This Matters

According to NITI Aayog, 600 million Indians face high to extreme water stress. In rural Eastern UP, 70% of water sources are contaminated with arsenic, fluoride, iron, or bacterial pathogens. Women and girls walk 2-5 km daily to fetch water, spending 2-3 hours every day — time stolen from education and livelihood.

Waterborne diseases like cholera, dysentery, typhoid, and Hepatitis A cause 1 lakh deaths annually in India. Children are most vulnerable — diarrhea alone kills over 100,000 children under 5 every year. In many villages around Varanasi, the only water source is a contaminated pond or open well. Hand pumps installed decades ago have rusted, broken, or been abandoned.

The water crisis disproportionately affects women and girls: 23% of Indian girls drop out of school because of water-related challenges (menstrual hygiene without clean water, time spent fetching water). Water scarcity triggers family conflicts, forces migration, and deepens poverty.
Crisis that demands action

This is not a statistics problem — it's real people, real families, suffering every single day in our own communities.

Government Initiatives
Jal Jeevan Mission aims to provide tap water to every household by 2024, but only 55% of rural households in UP have functional tap connections. Many connections provide water for only 1-2 hours daily and quality testing is inconsistent. Atal Bhujal Yojana addresses groundwater management but covers only 7 states. Water quality testing labs exist at district level but village-level testing is almost non-existent. Maintenance of installed hand pumps is poorly funded — 30% of government hand pumps are non-functional.

Government Efforts

What's Being Done — and What's Missing

While the government has launched several important schemes and policies, the gap between policy and implementation remains wide. Bureaucratic delays, low awareness, corruption, and poor infrastructure mean that benefits often don't reach the people who need them most.

This is where NGOs fill the gap

We bridge the gap between government schemes and the people who need them — through direct service delivery, awareness, and hand-holding support.

Your Donation's Impact

How Your Money Helps

Your donation brings safe drinking water to parched communities:

• **₹500** provides a water testing kit for one village
• **₹5,000** repairs and restores one non-functional community hand pump
• **₹15,000** installs a new India Mark II deep bore hand pump in a village
• **₹50,000** sets up a community-level water purification and filtration plant

We install hand pumps, borewells, and RO purification systems in villages that lack safe water access. Our water quality testing program has tested 500+ water sources and identified contamination hotspots. We build rainwater harvesting structures and train 2 local water monitors per village for ongoing maintenance. Every installation comes with community ownership agreements to ensure long-term sustainability.
Full transparency guaranteed

Every donation is tracked, reported, and accounted for. You'll receive photo updates and utilization reports.
