The Problem

Why This Matters

Varanasi, one of the oldest living cities, faces an environmental emergency. The Ganga — lifeline of 40 crore people — receives 3 billion litres of untreated sewage daily. Air Quality Index (AQI) in Varanasi regularly exceeds 300 (hazardous), ranking it among the world's most polluted cities. Deforestation has reduced UP's forest cover to just 6.1% — far below the national target of 33%.

Plastic pollution chokes drains, rivers, and agricultural land — India generates 3.5 million tonnes of plastic waste annually, only 25% is recycled. In Varanasi, open burning of garbage releases toxic fumes that cause respiratory diseases in 60% of nearby residents. Climate change is intensifying — erratic monsoons cause both floods and droughts, devastating farmers who depend on rain-fed agriculture.

Groundwater is depleting at alarming rates — 50% of observation wells in Varanasi show declining levels. Chemical pesticides have contaminated soil and water in agricultural areas, causing cancer clusters in some villages.
Crisis that demands action

This is not a statistics problem — it's real people, real families, suffering every single day in our own communities.

Government Initiatives
Namami Gange Mission has deployed ₹30,000 crore but the river's pollution levels haven't significantly decreased — many STPs run at 50-60% capacity. National Clean Air Programme targets 20-30% reduction in pollution by 2026 but progress is uneven. Swachh Bharat Mission improved sanitation but waste management remains broken — most garbage ends up in landfills or rivers. Green India Mission targets 5 million hectares of afforestation but land availability and maintenance are challenges.

Government Efforts

What's Being Done — and What's Missing

While the government has launched several important schemes and policies, the gap between policy and implementation remains wide. Bureaucratic delays, low awareness, corruption, and poor infrastructure mean that benefits often don't reach the people who need them most.

This is where NGOs fill the gap

We bridge the gap between government schemes and the people who need them — through direct service delivery, awareness, and hand-holding support.

Your Donation's Impact

How Your Money Helps

Your donation protects our environment through Anand Kanan's green initiatives:

• **₹50** plants and maintains one tree sapling for 3 years
• **₹500** sponsors a riverbank cleanup drive clearing 1 km of Ganga ghats
• **₹2,000** sets up a rainwater harvesting system for one rural household
• **₹10,000** installs a solar street light in a village lane
• **₹25,000** establishes a community composting unit for one village

We organize monthly tree plantation drives, Ganga cleanup campaigns, and waste segregation awareness workshops. Our "Green Village" program promotes organic farming, rainwater harvesting, solar energy, and composting. We distribute 10,000+ saplings annually to schools and communities and monitor their survival rate (85%). Our Eco-Warriors volunteer program engages 500+ youth in monthly environmental action.
Full transparency guaranteed

Every donation is tracked, reported, and accounted for. You'll receive photo updates and utilization reports.
